Third suspect from Lawton arrested in Altus murder case
ALTUS A third suspect believed to be connected to an Aug. 20 fatal shooting was arrested in Lawton Tuesday night.
Altus Police Chief Tim Murphy confirmed that the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force apprehended Marquis Deshawn Johnson, 23. Earlier on Tuesday, two felony arrest warrants were issued in Jackson County District Court against Johnson on charges of removal of a dead body and being an accessory after the fact. He was taken to Jackson County Jail, where he remained Tuesday on a $250,000 bond.
Murphy said Altus police believe the shooting suspect, Marielle Trey Smith, and his girlfriend, Ryan McKenzie Fields, drove to Lawton after the shooting and then took Johnson back to Altus to help remove the victim's body from the crime scene. The body of Jared Allen Holmes, 32, was discovered Aug. 22 in a rural area northwest of Frederick in Tillman County.
The other two suspects, both from Lawton, were captured Sept. 7 in Oklahoma City by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. Smith, 24, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the homicide. Fields, 22, is charged with being an accessory.
