Cameron Baptist gives first responders a tasty thank-you
First responders were guests of honor Monday at Cameron Baptist Church when it presented its annual 9/11 lunch.
Church members helped bake all kinds of goodies and helped serve them to the attendees. Ted's Escondido Grill catered the luncheon.
Terri McCuiston, who organized the luncheon, said the event an annual thank you for the professionals and volunteers the community depends on served 150 people this year, down about 30 from last year.
"Even though the count was down, everyone who came through and ate, seemed to enjoy the food and the fellowship of the event," she said. "We will continue to host this event."
The entire range of first responders was represented, including firefighters, law enforcement, emergency medical technicians and emergency management specialists.
Lawton Assistant Police Chief James Apple has been in law enforcement for 37 years.
"Law enforcement has always been what I wanted to do," Apple said. "It was a childhood dream of mine and I really enjoy it."
