2 police officers promoted
Two longtime Lawton police officers were promoted in a ceremony Friday at the City Hall Banquet Room.
Detective Robert Whittington was promoted to lieutenant and Lt. John Mull was promoted to captain.
Whittington has 14 years on the force and comes from a long line of law enforcement officers. His father, John Whittington, is a former police officer and was chief of police for Lawton Public Schools for many years, and Robert's two brothers are also on the force.
"Robert has shown great leadership skills," Police Chief James Smith said. "He's a good detective and I am looking forward to seeing the great things he'll add to the police department."
Mull was hired in March 2002, has served as a patrol officer and field training officer, was a member of the Gang Unit, and worked in Special Operations. He became a lieutenant in 2011.
Nathan Mackey, who is an Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper, worked with Mull at the Lawton Police Department between 2002 and 2007.
"Mull is an outstanding leader and I know he'll do a great job because he is a hard worker and a man of integrity," Mackey said.
