Tour of the Wichitas returns June 24

Bikers across Southwest Oklahoma will once again be able to put their feet on the pedals and race through the Wichita Mountains.

The Tour of the Wichitas will be held on Saturday June 24 at 8 a.m.

To register, go to and select your category. Early registration, set at $25 will run through this Friday, June 16. You can still register after June 16, but the fee increases to $30. Online registration closes one day before the race on Friday, June 23 at 12:01 a.m.

You can still register the morning of the event from 6 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. at the Atwoods parking lot in Lawton on NW 52nd Street near the start of the race.

There will be four races bicyclists can choose from. The White Tail route, which is the shortest distance at 15 miles long, will start at 8 a.m. along with the other three distances. The Elk route is 30 miles long while the Long Horn route is a 52-mile trek. The longest race, called the Buffalo route, is 66 miles.

Both the Longhorn and Buffalo routes ride through the heart of the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge and around Lake Lawtonka.
