Swingler back to make rodeo fans laugh
Mark Swingler has been the "Crown Prince of Clowns" for many years on the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association circuit but take off his makeup and he's one of the most powerful men in the sport.
For two terms, Swingler served on the PRCA Board of Directors as the contract personel representative. During part of that stint he made back-to-back trips to Lawton and entertained with his humor and his old bucking car.
These days Swingler has changed his act and now he's booked for a return engagement at the 79th Annual Lawton Rangers Rodeo where he will entertain fans as only he can during each performance. And, while his old car isn't making the rounds with him, he does have an act where wheels are involved but we're not going to give away all his secrets until opening night.
And, the opening night of the popular professional rodeo will be on Wednesday, Aug. 9. Then there will be perfomances as well on Thursday, Aug. 10, Friday, Aug. 11 and Saturday, Aug. 12 at the LO Ranch Arena east of Lawton. Performances will begin each night at 7:30 p.m. with the grand entry.
While Swingler is no longer on the PRCA board, his voice is still heard in the group and with the recent announcement that PRCA Executive Director Carl Stressman is retiring at the end of the year, it will be vitally important for the group to find the right person to lead it into the future.
