Sliding into State
MacArthur, Duncan, Elgin and Marlow are sliding into state baseball tournaments this weekend.
It is state tournament time for Class 5A, and MacArthur and Duncan are set to represent the southwest region of the state.
The tourney begins Thursday morning at Broken Arrow High School, and the Highlanders (27-9) are scheduled to play the first game of the festivities against Claremore at 11 a.m. Meanwhile, the Demons (29-6) take on Bishop Kelley at 4 p.m.
Although Mac and Duncan rarely meet teams from the east side of the state, they have experience against their respective opponents. The outcomes weren't favorable, though.
The Highlanders and the Demons were served rude awakenings against these same teams last month in the East/West Showdown in Wilburton. Mac was the first casualty, dropping an 11-3 decision to the Zebras (23-12), though the score might be a little misleading.
Claremore and the Highlanders were locked in a tight 4-3 contest through five innings before the Zebras tallied seven runs in the sixth alone to claim the victory. With Trey Longacre on the mound for Mac, Claremore managed nine hits to the Highlanders' four.
