Norman North handles LHS
Lawton High soccer was swept by visiting Norman North on Monday night at Cameron Stadium. Neither Wolverine squad was able to keep it close as the girls were blown out 10-0 before halftime while the boys watched a one-goal deficit at half turn into a 4-0 defeat.
Wolverines slip in second half
For the first 30 minutes, Lawton High was neck-and-neck with a talented Norman North team. The Wolverines held their ground and flustered the Timberwolves' multitude of shots at and around the net. Then a late first-half goal from Norman North doomed LHS.
Off a corner, Jameson Biles found the ball in a crowded box and tapped it in for a 1-0 lead in the 33rd minute.
Carrying that momentum into the second half, the Timberwolves scored two goals in a three-minute span to take a commanding 3-0 lead before cruising 4-0.
In the 48th minute, Otis Smith got loose in transition and got off a running shot for a 2-0 lead. Then Smith tallied an assist off a gorgeous through ball to find Biles for his second goal of the game. Biles timed his run through the defense perfectly before delivering a wide shot past the outstretched arms of LHS goalkeeper Joshua Bales.
"That was just a momentary lapse in concentration," LHS coach Adam Tasca said. "You'll hear me on the sideline telling them, 'Stay with your guy. Stay with your guy.' And they let him run free."
