Mac, Duncan eye first 5A State games

BROKEN ARROW  MacArthur will try and make a statement today when the Highlanders battle Claremore in the first round of the Class 5A State baseball tournament at Broken Arrow High School.

Game time is 11 a.m. and the mere fact that the Highlanders drew that early starting time has been enough to rankle the feathers of the Highlanders, their coaches and fans.

The game means a great deal to Mac as the Highlanders are still steaming over an 11-3 loss to the Zebras just a couple of weeks ago in the East/West Shootout in McAlester. That game was close but Claremore pulled away down the stretch to take the win.

That wasn't the only stumble for the Highlanders who went 5-7 over the last three weeks to enter the State meet on their heels. But taking care of Piedmont in the regional "if" game showed a great deal of fight and Coach Rodney DeLong is hoping that the same team shows up today.

Duncan will get its first action at 4 p.m. against Tulsa Kelley and the Demons are counting on their the Demons are counting on their ace Tyler Polk to help them get past this first hurdle.
