Local baseball teams get playoff assignments
Regional playoffs start for the bigger high school baseball teams this week, while Class A and B will hold their state tournaments.
Lawton High plays Westmoore at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Edmond Santa Fe regional. The winner faces the winner of the Edmond Santa Fe-Putnam City game. The Wolverines finished the regular season with a record of 10-20 under first-year head coach Kyle Fultz. The Jaguars finished 21-9 and 9-3 in district play.
The other two city teams will play in the same regional with the MacArthur Highlanders (24-9, 9-3), champions of District 5A-2, hosting a regional this week. Eisenhower (10-21, 5-9) will play Woodward at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday at MacArthur. Because of the uneven number of teams in District 5A-1, the MacArthur regional will only have three teams. Mac will play the loser of the Woodward-Ike game at 4 p.m. Thursday and will face the winner at 6:30 p.m. It will be double elimination format and if any of the teams go 2-0 on day one, that team will have to beaten twice on Friday to be eliminated. Games will be at 4 and 6:30 p.m. on Friday if needed.
Duncan and Altus will playing in the Piedmont regional, though times and opponents were not known at press time.
