LHS teams face big test at MWC; tourneys launch
Lawton High School's basketball teams will face stiff competition when they head to Midwest City tonight to play the state-ranked Bombers.
The Lawton girls (3-2) have not played a game in two and a half weeks and will try to knock off some of the holiday rust when they play Class 6A No. 13 Midwest City at 6 p.m. The Wolverines' last game was on Dec. 16 when they beat rival MacArthur, 47-39, on the road.
The boys' team is coming off a third-place finish in the Hobbs Holiday Tournament in Hobbs, N.M. last week. The Wolverines (5-2) went 2-1 in the tournament and are No. 15 in the latest Class 6A rankings. But Eric Wiley's crew will likely have to bring its best performance of the season when they face the third-ranked team in Class 6A in Midwest City at 7:30 p.m.
The Bombers are coming off of a third-place finish in the Tournament of Champions in Tulsa having beaten Tulsa Memorial in overtime on Friday. Their two losses this year were by a combined eight points and have come against the only teams ahead of them in the rankings, No. 1 Union and No. 2 Edmond North.
