Fundraiser set for 580 Rollergirls
Lawton's 580 Rollergirls are in full motion to raise funds and morale and are inviting the public to get involved.
The roller derby team is having a fundraiser to help offset moving costs and refurbish the group's new training facility at a warehouse at 103 S. Wallock (right across from Black Dog Crossfit).
The fundraiser is from 4 to 10 p.m. Monday at Texas Roadhouse, 5340 Cache Road.
Spokesman Marie Berberea said that when you tell the staff you're eating for the 580 Rollergirls, 10 percent of the bill will be donated to the team.
"It doesn't cost the patron any extra, so they get a good meal and it goes toward helping pay for the Rollergirls moving costs," Berberea said. "Moving is expensive. Help keep us rolling.
The team also has an open recruitment event set up for 4 p.m. Aug. 3 at the warehouse on Wallock. Berberea said you don't need to bring anything to open recruitment but the desire to be a part of something special.
"We are looking for skaters, referees, non-skating officials and good ol' volunteers," Berberea said. "If you've ever been interested in roller derby come find out what it's about. Our trainers will get you started on your path to joining the first flat-track roller derby team in Lawton."
