El Reno clips Mac, 2-1, in pitching duel
MacArthur baseball knew the second half of the season would be more challenging, and El Reno proved it right on Monday night.
The Highlanders (16-2) lost a district contest for the first time this season, dropping a 2-1 decision to the Indians in extra innings on the road. The loss ended Mac's four-game winning streak.
Both teams went scoreless through the first three innings, but El Reno (15-5) broke the tie in the fourth with a solo home run from Rhett Kouba. The Indians held that advantage for one inning until Racer Felter evened the score with a run in the sixth.
The game went to an extra inning after that, and despite a valiant effort from pitcher Michelle Artzberger, the Indians pulled off the upset when Gage Arnold connected for the walkoff to score Crawford, whose first name was not provided.
Artzberger recorded the loss on the mound, throwing 14 strikeouts to six hits in 7.1 innings. Kouba, who also led El Reno at the plate with two hits, earned the victory, allowing only two hits while striking out 15 batters.
Zac DeLong and Brad Hoskins had the lone hits for the Highlanders.
