Eisenhower NoteBook / Week 6
Eisenhower hit the midway point of the 2017 season with a 2-3 record. More importantly, the Eagles finished the first half with a 2-0 district mark after a fairly dramatic 26-21 win over Piedmont on Friday. This week's game at Woodward is a big one when it comes to district standings. It is likely that the winner of this game will have the upper hand when it comes to playoff position.
Some nice resources to have
Before becoming the head coach of the Eagles last year, Mike Burris was the defensive line coach for years. During that time, he built connections with some of the coaches who were in charge of the great University of Oklahoma defenses of the early 2000's.
Bobby Jack Wright was a defensive assistant from 1999-2014, coaching the defensive ends during the Sooners' 2000 national championship run. At the same time Wright was hired to Bob Stoops' staff, Jackie Shipp was hired as the defensive line coach in Norman. When defensive lineman Larry Birdine graduated from Eisenhower and went to play for Wright and Shipp at OU, Burris was able to connect with the coaches and learn some things from them.
"I got a lot from them," Burris said. "I got a lot of video from them, was able to sit down and talk to them. I used to go up to practice and watch them. I went a lot when Larry was playing."
