Cameron golf teams currently sit in middle of pack at invites
Both the Cameron men's and women's golf teams were in action on Monday in out-of-state tournaments. Way out west in Goodyear, Ariz. at the Western New Mexico Women's Intercollegiate Invite, the Cameron women find themselves tied for eighth place after carding a 299 through the first round of play.
Allison Duffin and Iona Roska paced CU by each firing a 74 to vault them into a tie for 30th individually. Aggie teammates Kyndall Morgan and Bayleigh Johnson shot a 75 and 76, respectively. Morgan tallied four birdies in the first round while her and Roska each shot two-under on the par-5 holes on the course.
After totaling a 299, the Aggies are 11-over par as a team and are already trail the leader, Dallas Baptist, by 17 strokes. California Baptist and Tarleton State are in a tie for second place at 289, seven strokes behind Dallas Baptist at 282. Evelyn Arguelles of Dallas Baptist leads the field individually at four-under par. The final round begins today.
Out east in Fort Smith, Ark. at the Hardscrabble Invitational, the Cameron men's golf team rests in the middle of the pack, sitting in fifth place in the nine-team field after firing a 305 in the second round, a plus-25 over-par.
The Aggies, who now sit 35 strokes behind the leaders, Lone Star Conference foe Texas A&M-Commerce at even-par, are now at 35-over par after two rounds and moved down two spots in the team standings on Monday. Arkansas-Fort Smith is in second at 7-over par before the log jam begins as the next six teams are separated by just 20 strokes. LSC foe Midwestern State (plus-26) is in third, followed by Rogers State (plus-29) in fourth, CU in fifth (plus-35) and Missouri Southern State (plus-39) in sixth.
