Cameron golf leads field after two rounds
After two rounds of play, things are looking up for the Cameron men's golf team, which currently leads the field at the St. Edward's Invitational in Austin, Texas.
The Aggies shot 288 as a team in the first round before firing a 289 in the second round. Cameron's 577 score through 36 holes has the Aggies sitting one stroke in front of the hosts, St. Edward's, heading into the third and final round on Tuesday.
Consistency was the name of the game for the Aggies, whose top three golfers turned in near-par scores in the opening two rounds.
Will Lovelace paced Cameron by shooting a 73 in the first round and a 70 in the second to card a 143, which vaults him into a tie for sixth place currently. Daniel Nielsen and Devin Tovey aren't far behind as the duo each shot a 144 and are currently tied for ninth place.
Statistically, Tovey tied for a tourney-high, 3-under par-4 score, while Ward tied the field with a 3-under par-5 score. Lovelace led CU with nine birdies. Tovey tallied six birdies himself.
