Bouquet's 89 nets Xtreme Bulls crown
Dustin Bouquet got a big assist from the bulls Saturday night as they dominated the action once again to allow the Louisiana cowboy to take home the championship in the Liberty National Bank Xtreme Bulls Classic at the Great Plains Coliseum.
Bouquet had posted an 89 Friday by riding Magic Poison from the Frontier Rodeo Company herd and many expected that score might not hold up with so many great bulls and young riders scheduled to compete Saturday.
But when all was said and done, just two rides Saturday found their way into the money and neither was able to bump Bouquet from the throne. The Bourg, La., cowboy earned $4,935, more than twice what he's won this season in the Xtreme Bulls events around the country that are part of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA).
One of the qualified rides Saturday was from Kyle Zeigler of Atwood, Kan., who roped Express Lane from Frontier for an 87 to jump into a two-way tie with Trey Benton III for second. Benton rodeo Tiger Twister from the Frontier herd on Friday. Both of them earned a check for $3,290.
Cody Rostockyj was fourth with his 86.5 on Dark Moment of the Frontier herd, earning him $1,800.
