Artzberger, Highlanders blank El Reno
As he has done so many times this year, Michelle Artzberger came up big when his team needed him most Monday.
The MacArthur sophomore allowed just one hit for the second straight start, striking out 11 El Reno batters and hitting a much-needed RBI single in the Highlanders' 3-0 win over the Indians at home.
MacArthur (19-8, 8-2) beat the Indians in a high-scoring affair, 17-15, a month ago. Monday night, runs were at a premium.
Leading just 1-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Highlanders caught a break when Zac DeLong reached first base, and then advanced to second on a throwing error. Artzberger singled up the middle of the infield, scoring DeLong. After a passed ball allowed Artzberger to move all the way to third base, Rylan Webb singled home an insurance run for Mac.
Artzberger's hit was one of only four for MacArthur on the day, and was by far the most critical. Although it eventually won the game, Mac's offense failed to capitalize in a few important moments.
