Local kids will entertain with 'The Aristocats KIDS'
Everybody wants to be a cat, and audiences will know where it's at during Lawton Community Theatre's production of Disney's "The Aristocats KIDS," which will premiere Thursday at the John Denney Playhouse, 1316 NW Bell.
"The Aristocats" will be the theater's annual summer children's musical with a cast of 38 with ages ranging from 7-15. The musical is based on Disney's 1970 film of the same name. Retired opera singer Madame Adelaide Bonfamille (Emma Shady) has four cats she adores Duchess (Emmalee Hamilton), the mother of Berlioz (Ivan Bracher), Toulouse (Hansen Karlberg) and Marie (Luna Beck). She decides to leave her estate to her pretties, and when her butler, Edgar (Shelby Peacock), learns who will inherit her estate, he plots to eliminate the cats.
Director/music director Sahona Littig-Albin said "The Aristocats" story translates well from screen to stage, taking enough out for the musical to only last 45 minutes. The Aristocats come across many characters during their journey, including their mouse friend Roquefort (Alexandra Kent); Thomas O'Malley the Alley Cat (Dallas Butler); geese Abigail (Samantha Shady) and Ameila Gabble (Jaycee Mason); and many more alley cats and dogs.
"They kept the gist of the story to where we know what's going on and can follow it, especially for younger actors to pull it off quickly and easily," Littig-Albin said. "I know one of my students in there mentioned that there are no horses, but that's difficult to translate onto the stage. Dogs, cats and geese, you can do that, but horses get a little crazy."
