LBT to perform Swan Lake for first time in history
Tchaikovsky's "Swan Lake" is perhaps the most famous ballet in the world "The Nutcracker" not withstanding. So it might come as a suprise to some that the Lawton Ballet Theatre has never performed the famous story based on Russian and German folk tales. According to Katie Veenhuizen, owner and Artistic Director of the theatre, there is a simple explanation for the absence of the classical ballet, "It's never really come up."
"We do The Nutcracker every year, which is the only piece we perform that is strictly ballet. In the spring we have a recital, we just did The Little Mermaid," Veenhuizen said.
The theatre's spring performance incorporates several styles of dance, not just ballet. But Veenhuizen decided that for the summer program she wanted to try another strictly ballet show, which led her to "Swan Lake."
