Former Miss America, Lawton native to co-host 'Discover Oklahoma'

Former Miss America and Lawton native Lauren Nelson recently accepted a co-host position with "Discover Oklahoma."

Her first episode co-hosting alongside Dino Lalli will premiere at 6:30 p.m. today on KSWO Channel 7. The statewide television show, produced by the Oklahoma Tourism and Recreation Department, covers travel and tourism across the state. Nelson served as a reporter for the show a year and a half before becoming co-host in December 2016. She was excited and honored when offered the co-hosting position.

"'Discover Oklahoma' has been around for decades," Nelson said. "So I have always known 'Discover Oklahoma' and have always enjoyed it. I've enjoyed working with them for the last year and a half, so to be the co-host is such an honor to represent the state again."

Prior to "Discover Oklahoma," she was an anchor for KWTV News 9 in Oklahoma City. She held the titles of Miss Oklahoma in 2006 and Miss America in 2007. She's a graduate of MacArthur High School and earned a degree in public relations from the University of Central Oklahoma.

With her new position, Nelson is looking forward to seeing parts of Oklahoma she hasn't ever seen.
