Former Lawtonians return for recital
The First Presbyterian Church Music Series will host Micheal and Carly Barnes in recital at 7 p.m. on Tuesday in the church fellowship hall, 1302 SW. A.
Micheal Barnes is a former Lawton resident and a MacArthur High School graduate. Both he and his wife are pursuing graduate degrees in music from the Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music.
Allen Faries, minister of music for the church, is excited to see Barnes return to Lawton.
"He just has tremendous work ethic, and at the same time has a really fine mind," Faries said. "Carly, his wife, she's an excellent flute player."
Faries has a personal connection to Micheal Barnes through his late son, who served as Barnes's percussion instructor at Macarthur.
"All the way through college, Micheal kept a picture of my son on his bedside stand," Faries said. "In fact, he dedicated his last performance to my son when he graduated."
Faries is expecting a wide variety of music from the Barneses during their recital.
"Usually what they'll do is he will play some pieces, and then she will play some pieces, and then they will join up and play some stuff together," Faires said.
