According to Michael Richey, pageant director, the titleholders are representatives of the community.
"They will make appearances at various functions around the city and surrounding communities," Richey said. "They go out into the schools and promote their platforms. They participate with the Salvation Army Angel Tree ceremony, community parades, Arts for All Festival, to name some of them. They will also represent Lawton in June (2018) at the Miss Oklahoma and Miss Oklahoma's Outstanding Teen Pageant as they compete for those titles."
Saturday's pageant will also be the final walks for Miss Lawton 2017 Lacey Anderson and Miss Lawton's Outstanding Teen 2017 Addie Coody. Richey thanked Anderson and Coody for their service and "for being such wonderful representatives."
"It has been an honor to get to work with both of them this year," Richey said. "I feel these girls are like one of my own daughters and want to continue to be involved with what is happening in their lives. It has been a pleasure to work with their families and get to know them throughout this year. They have become, and will always be, family to all of the Miss Lawton Board."
