Support the Lawton-Fort Sill Freedom Festival Saturday

One of the best family events of the year is the Lawton-Fort Sill Freedom Festival, which attracts thousands of people from throughout Southwest Oklahoma. It will be a day-long event this Saturday at Elmer Thomas Park.

It is sponsored by the Freedom Festival Committee and hosted by the City of Lawton and city businesses and individuals. A city Independence Day celebration and fireworks show was a long-time dream of city council member Keith Jackson. He put it all together about four years ago, and what a show it has become!

The event opens at 10 a.m. There will be lots of music — including the 77th Army Band — entertainment including Kourtney Smith, 2017 Texoma Idol and 2018 American Idol top 50. It also features car and motorcycle shows, and great food and vendors. The new splash pool will be open.

The event and parking are free, but donations are needed and accepted to help defray the city’s costs. Visitors can bring food, and are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, sunscreen, insect repellant, flashlights and umbrellas. However, no pets, alcohol, personal fireworks or drones, please.

The fireworks show, one of the largest in Oklahoma, will begin at sunset and is set to music. It can be heard on Magic 95.3 FM.

Don’t miss it.
