SWMC to celebrate 110 years Tuesday at hospital
Southwestern Medical Center will celebrate its 110th birthday with a celebration from 10-11:30 a.m. Oct. 17 with cake and refreshments at the hospital, 5602 W. Lee.
Southwestern traces its history to 1907 as Lawton's first civilian hospital. With what was then Turner and Lewis Private Hospital and Training School for Nurses, Turner and Lewis began the endeavor of providing exceptional care to the community. The current location houses 199 beds, 187 more than it began with in 1907.
"We are excited about where we started and what is to come," said Randy Butler, interim CEO of Southwestern." Since celebrating our 105th birthday in 2012, we have added a telemetry monitoring system for heart patients, an outpatient surgery center and purchased the Imaging Center, a diagnostic imaging facility. We have significant, upcoming strategies and hope the next five years are filled with even more innovations so the community can continue to receive quality care, right here in Lawton."
In April, Southwestern Medical Center became an affiliate with St. Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City, joining 16 other Oklahoma hospitals and providing their patients access to specialty services not otherwise available locally.
Southwestern Medical Center invites the public to celebrate its achievement of serving the community and Southwest Oklahoma for 110 years.
