Fort Sill to host seminar on housing laws
The Fort Sill Housing Services Office will host a seminar on housing laws from 1-4 p.m. Tuesday in Room 301A at Great Plains Technology Center.
Teressa L. Webster, staff attorney and fair housing project director for Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, will cover reasonable accommodations/modification under the federal and Oklahoma Fair Housing acts and landlord/tenant rights.
Kathryn McClure, attorney and chief of the Client Services Division, Office of the Staff Judge Advocate, will address the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA). The primary purpose of the SCRA is to ease legal and financial burdens on military personnel and their families brought on by the demands of active duty.
Seating is limited, so reservations are requested; call 442-2813/3778/5190 or email usarmy.sill.imcom-west.mbx.dpw-housingmail.mil.
The presentation will end with question-and-answer session.
Topics to be covered in the discussion of Oklahoma landlord-tenant laws include:
• Key residential lease provisions that Oklahoma law prohibits;
• The landlord's responsibilities under Oklahoma law;
• The tenant's responsibilities under Oklahoma law; and
• Remedies if either party does not live up to its responsibilities.
The Fair Housing Law generally provides certain protections to those with disabilities.
